On May 9, many Europeans join together to celebrate Europe Day. This day marks the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration of 1950, in which he set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe.
Regardless of their cultural backgrounds, orientations, or convictions, Europeans tend to be inclusive and embrace what each member of the community has to offer in order to improve and create a stronger community for generations to come.
After living for many years in Europe and really appreciating the union and stability they have created, I can’t help but dream of something similar to the European Union happening in South America.
As a Venezuelan by upbringing but born in Colombia, I dream of the day when the governments of our countries stop being so individualistic and set out to fulfil the dream of our liberator, Simon Bolivar, to create a great nation for its citizens. We have too much beauty to offer to the world.
I wish that very soon we will all be able to enjoy the great beauty of our land in love and unity. May we see the sunshine where others see shadows, and many opportunities where others see obstacles…
Dia de Europa
El 9 de mayo, muchos europeos se unen para celebrar el Día de Europa. Este día marca el aniversario de la histórica Declaración Schuman de 1950, en la que expuso su idea de una nueva forma de cooperación política en Europa.
Independientemente de sus orígenes culturales, orientaciones o convicciones, los europeos tienden a ser integradores y a acoger lo que cada miembro de la comunidad tiene que ofrecer para mejorar y crear una comunidad más fuerte para las generaciones venideras.
Después de vivir muchos años en Europa y apreciar realmente la unión y la estabilidad que han creado, no puedo evitar soñar con que algo similar a la Unión Europea ocurra en Sudamérica.
Como venezolano de nacimiento, pero nacido en Colombia, sueño con el día en que los gobiernos de nuestros países dejen de ser tan individualistas y se propongan cumplir el sueño de nuestro libertador, Simón Bolívar, de crear una gran nación para sus ciudadanos. Tenemos demasiada belleza que ofrecer al mundo.
Deseo que muy pronto todos podamos disfrutar de la gran belleza de nuestra tierra en amor y unidad. Deseo que podamos ver el sol donde otros ven sombras, y muchas oportunidades donde otros ven obstáculos….
